Daniil Medvedev officially punched his ticket to the ATP Finals in Turin after reaching the semifinals of the Vienna Open.

The Russian joined Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz and Ben Shelton on the list of confirmed players for the year-end event after defeating Adrian Mannarino 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals of the ATP 500 competition. Medvedev will be making his seventh appearance at the ATP Finals and his first since 2024. He missed out on qualification last year for the first time since 2018 after a disappointing 2025 season.

While he has not advanced past the fourth round of the major this year, Medvedev has enjoyed some success in 2026, winning four tour-level titles and reaching the final of the Indian Wells Open.

Asked in his on-court interview after beating Mannarino if he always knew he would qualify for the ATP Finals this year, Medvedev replied: “I didn’t always know. Especially after the US, I thought it would be a bit tight.

“But probably after Shanghai, I felt like I was probably in, and especially after Almaty, I knew I was in, so it’s a bit like, am I happy today? No, I was happy three days ago, because three days ago I knew I’m in Turin, so today doesn’t change much, but I’m happy to win this match.

“My level is great. When I’m in confidence, I always know how to keep it, so I was always one of the best players in the world when I’m in the groove, and I am in the groove now, but it doesn’t change. Today I win 6-2, 6-3. I’m not going to change my mind. I’m not going to be standing here and saying, yeah, the court became much better.

“In my opinion, for an indoor hard court, that’s not a good court, because I understand that we have to diversify the conditions to be able to show different skills of players, but indoor hard courts is about serve, it’s about, even though I don’t do it, but it’s about serve and volley. Here, if someone serves and volleys, he’s going to lose 6-1, 6-1, probably, and in my opinion, that’s just not right for indoor hard courts.”

Medvedev was dominant against Mannarino, having not conceded a break of serve or even a break point opportunity. “You have to be ready for long rallies; that’s his type of game, to get you in uncomfortable positions,” said Medvedev of the Frenchman.

“And that’s my style as well, so in a way, some points were about who gets the other one in uncomfortable position and manages to consolidate the point, and I feel like I was a bit better at this. I made probably a bit more winners, I put just a tiny bit more pressure on him than maybe he did on me, and happy that it worked.”

Medvedev is bidding to win the Vienna Open title for the second time in his career, four years on from his triumph at the 2022 edition of the event.
