FA Cup clash rocked by thick fog with TNT Sports commentators having no idea what’s going on

THERE were fireworks on and off the pitch as League Two Notts County survived at scare against Altrincham at Moss Lane.

Unfortunately, viewers couldn’t see much off it as a thick shroud of fog rendered the cameras all-but useless.

Players could barely see each other

TNT Sports commentator Adam Summerton was left in the dark alongside those at home.

“Your guess is as good as mine at the minute,” he said with a chuckle alongside former non-league star Adam Virgo.

Fans were loving the clip in the comments, while one offered an explanation for the dodgy view.

A fan posted on X: “PEAK FA Cup this haha.”

Another joked: “Silent Hill FC.”

A third asked: “Where’s the orange ball? I miss those days!”

One local blamed the time of year, explaining: “It is smoke from the bonfire night fireworks and bonfires. I live round the corner, it is literally just smoke. All you can smell in the air is smoke.”

The sides were level after 90 minutes, meaning extra-time and more trouble for Summerton and Virgo.

The magic of the FA Cup was hidden by a shroud of mist

With conditions worsening as the night progressed, fans were forced to take matters into their own hands.

The floodlights were struggling to fight through the gloom and TV cameras captured supporters in the stands using their phones to help out.

Jacob Bedeau put the Magpies ahead as he nodded in Callum Roberts’ cross after 28 minutes.

Lucas Weaver pulled it back before the break and the hosts went in front through Lewis Banks’ close-range effort.

The non-league outfit could not hold on, however, and Roberts turned goalscorer to take the game past 90.

The commentators struggled their way through the shootout, largely going off the crowd reaction as Rosaire Longelo scored the decisive spot-kick to send the Magpies into the second round.
