World Series champion Mitch Garver announces retirement at 35: Ex-Rangers star hangs up his glove after 10 seasons

Mitch Garver has announced his retirement from Major League Baseball after 10 seasons that included a World Series win.

The 35-year-old catcher and designated hitter called time on his career on Thursday, two months after he signed a minor league deal with the New York Yankees.

Garver played for the Twins, Rangers and Mariners, with his crowning moment coming in 2023 when he played a leading role as Texas secured a first World Series crown.

The Albuquerque native hit three home runs and 14 RBIs in the postseason before up to 700,000 Rangers fans lined the streets of Arlington.

Four years earlier, Garver earned the Silver Slugger award, which is given to the best offensive players at each position in the American League and the National League.

He was part of a Minnesota Twins team that made history, smashing 307 home runs in the regular season - a Major League record for a single season.

That year, Garver hit a career-high 31 homers across 93 games.

The 35-year-old played college baseball at the University of New Mexico before being selected by the Twins in the ninth round of the 2013 MLB draft.

He waited four years for his first Major League appearance and played five seasons for Minnesota before joining the Rangers.

Following their World Series win, the catcher signed a two-year, $24 million deal with the Seattle Mariners.
