Florida State just lost one of its 2028 commitments. Three-star tight end Troy Silberzahn, who pledged to the program back in July, has decommitted, per Zach Blostein of 247Sports.
This comes just two days after FSU fired head coach Mike Norvell as well as defensive coordinator Tony White and safeties coach Evan Cooper. Silberzahn went into detail as to why he made this decision, and not knowing how things will end up with the coaching staff was the main factor.
"Yes, I would say that is the main factor. I don't really know where the staff is going to go," Silberzahn said. "I'm also super young in this process, and I just want to see what doors open and what God has in plan for me."
Silberzahn also mentioned that a planned trip to Tallahassee this month likely won't happen now that he's decommitted. He named the UCF Knights, Virginia Cavaliers, and UCLA Bruins as some of the schools that have his interest.
The 6-foot-3.5, 212-pounder is the second player to decommit from Florida State recently, as 2027 three-star wide receiver Majay Thompson did so on Sunday prior to Norvell being fired. He probably will not be the last, as 2028 three-star edge Meshi Dobson said he'll most likely decommit as well.
Silberzahn is the No. 732 overall prospect and the No. 33 tight end per the 247Sports composite rankings. In the state of Florida, he's the No. 83 recruit.
