Liverpool are believed to be showing an interest in “extremely dangerous” Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh ahead of a potential move this summer.

Wide signings are essential for the Reds before next season gets underway, and reliable journalist David Lynch has claimed that an extra winger could come in as well as Bradley Barcola:

“I think so. And again, kind of further to conversations I’ve had today, I think that’s the mindset as well. There really is a feeling they need to add more in attack, and that’s not just kind of one in, one out with Barcola. I think there’s a feeling that they absolutely have to, you know, get Barcola over the line and then kind of see where they’re up to, but to add more because they feel like they’re a little bit short in that area.”

According to TEAMtalk, £70m-rated Brighton star Minteh is a player who Liverpool have “concrete interest” in, with the Gambian seen as a “natural fit” to replace the departed Mohamed Salah at Anfield.

The report also adds that the Reds “first looked” at Minteh when Arne Slot was in charge, and they “have maintained such interest even after the Dutchman’s sacking.”

Could Yankuba Minteh excel for Liverpool?

Yankuba is another exciting option for Liverpool this summer, even though there is still a rawness in his game, meaning that patience will be required with him.

But the 22-year-old has the pace and directness to worry defences from the right wing, and former Netherlands international Willem van Hanegem has heaped praise on him, saying:

“I’ve enjoyed him for a few games already. That guy is extremely dangerous with his pace. If I were Feyenoord, I would now cast my doubts if he could be rented from Newcastle United for another year.”

If Liverpool were able to sign both Barcola and Minteh, it would help transform their attack in wide areas, following a season in which the Reds’ attack felt far too one-paced with Salah past his best and Cody Gakpo toiling.

Whether there are enough funds to spend around £200m on two wingers is up for debate, though, with other signings also required in several areas of the pitch.
