In a bizarre event, the Bangladesh Under-19 team accused the Afghanistan Under-19 captain, Sohail Khan, of delivering an extra over, exceeding his 10-over limit. It was a one-day format match between the age-group teams of Bangladesh and Afghanistan, where each bowler was allowed to bowl ten overs.

If the accusations made by Bangladesh cricket officials are to be believed, then the Afghanistan U-19 captain and their main strike bowler, Sohail Khan, had overlooked the over limit. The incident has grabbed the attention of cricket fans globally as it was an unusual incident in a cricket match, especially when two national teams were involved.

Bangladesh U-19 officials accuse Afghanistan's Sohail Khan of delivering an extra over

According to media reports, Bangladesh team officials were spotted in long discussions with the match referee, Yasir Latifzai, to express their point of view. The media reports claimed that the over was first assigned to a different bowler, who handed his cap to the umpire as well.

Later, as the Bangladesh U-19 camp has claimed, Sohail Khan changed his mind and came to bowl after utilising his full ten-over quota.

Bangladesh U-19 submitted their claims in a written format

As quoted by Cricinfo, Bangladesh U-19 coach Hannan Sarkar stated that they had written about the errors made by the umpire with a special note in their captain's note, addressing the alleged 11th over delivered by Sohail Khan.

"We have written about the umpiring decisions in the captain's report, and added a special note, specifically mentioning the eleven overs in question," Sarkar said, as quoted by Cricinfo.

"Since the standard captain's report form doesn't typically have a dedicated space for such details, an additional note was appended after the list of decisions.

A different bowler was about to deliver the controversial over

Sarkar further claimed that they did not have access to the official scoreboard, so they were tracking the match scoreboard, including the number of overs delivered by the bowlers, online. When they came to know that the opposing captain bowled an extra over, it was already late. So, the officials tried to highlight their point to the match referee after the incident.

"Their captain, who is also their main strike bowler, ended up bowling 11 overs in the third match. We didn't have access to the official scorer, so we were tracking the scorecard via Cricinfo on the team manager's phone."

"Our own analyst's records indicated that (Sohail Khan) had already bowled ten overs. By the time we noticed this, he had already begun another over. As soon as that over concluded, we informed the umpires, though by then, the over had already finished."

Hannan Sarkar, in his brief, also mentioned that the over was credited to the different bowler who first handed his cap to the umpire. So, at that time, the scoreboard also did not show the truth. In support of their claims, the Bangladesh Under-19 team also reportedly sent a video of the over to the match referee.
