On summer deadline day, Liverpool‘s Harvey Elliott joined Valencia on a season-long loan, and he’s yet to adapt to his new surroundings.
The midfielder spent the last season on loan at Aston Villa, playing 277 minutes in nine matches. He returned to Anfield in the summer, and Andoni Iraola left him out of his core plans.
Therefore, Liverpool let him join the La Liga side, and the move hasn’t worked out for all parties.
In September, the attacking midfielder made his Los Ches debut in their 5-0 defeat to Barcelona. Later that month, the Spanish media reported the La Liga side were unhappy that the Reds man was overweight.
The 23-year-old worked on improving his fitness during the last international break. That wasn’t enough for him to enjoy regular minutes as Javier Aguirre is yet to hand him his first start. He has played 152 minutes in six matches this season.
Plaza Deportiva states that some of Valencia’s summer signings, including Harvey Elliott’, are finding it more difficult to adapt to the new league.

The expectation was for the Liverpool owned player to make a difference, but that hasn’t happened yet. The situation became worse after receiving a red card in the 2-1 defeat to Villarreal in October. Plaza Deportiva blamed his sending off dented Valencia’s chances of avoiding a defeat.
Elliott is on a high salary and has a few weeks to showcase his qualities and turn things around. Should he fail, the Spanish club could terminate the loan and send him back to Anfield.
Roof manage the 23-year-old and their agent, Srđan Lakić, wanted to take him to Dinamo Zagreb. However, the representative eventually took him to the Mestalla.
When Harvey Elliott joined Valencia, Carlos Corberán was manager and Ron Gourlay was CEO. On September 2nd, the Liverpool man said Corberán played a huge role in his arrival.
Later that month, Valencia sacked Corberán and Gourlay and appointed Javier Aguirre as the Spaniard’s successor.
Taking Elliott’s loan spell at Mestalla into account, it’s clear that Gourlay wasn’t fully aware of what he was getting. It looks like the former CEO didn’t do enough background work.
Clearly, Gourlay and Valencia have to take blame for not doing enough behind the scenes before signing Elliott.
