‘This will be the next club for Eddie Howe’ Chris Waddle

When returning for Newcastle United pre-season Eddie Howe informed the club that the time had come for him to leave.

The then United boss though telling the Newcastle United owners and club hierarchy that he would stay until they found his replacement.

At the end of July, the departure of Eddie Howe was confirmed.

Having been appointed on 8 November 2021, the manager leaving after almost five years in charge.

Eddie Howe stating after his exit confirmed at the end of July 2026: “After a period of personal reflection, I have decided that now is the right time for me to step away from my role as head coach of Newcastle United. After nearly five years of giving my life, heart and soul into the club with unrelenting energy, I feel that it is in the best interests of both myself and the club to step away, recharge and take a break. Although it’s been incredibly difficult to make this decision, I know in my heart that it’s the right one. I have always put the best interests of Newcastle before my own in every single decision I have made whilst I’ve been here and this one is no different.”

Now Chris Waddle has predicted what the next job in management will be for Eddie Howe.

The former Newcastle United and England star declaring to Talksport Bet: “Eddie Howe did a great job at Newcastle United, let’s be honest. That puts him in a good position while sitting on the fence waiting for the right job to come along. It’s a matter of who presses the panic button first. He will be heavily linked because of what he achieved at Newcastle, and rightly so. He plays a nice brand of football, so a lot of teams will be looking at him and thinking about when to make that move. He won’t be short of offers. He’s probably enjoying a nice break at the minute, but after a few weeks, he’s probably thinking he’s ready to get back into it. It just depends on who presses the panic button first in the Premier League.”

So Chris Waddle predicting it will be whoever presses that “panic button” first and sacks their manager.

As a Newcastle United fan, I think it is all but inevitable that Eddie Howe will eventually be appointed by one of the other major Premier League clubs AND he will do really well.

I’d love to think England would be his next job but doubt it, I think that will come later as he has unfinished business in club football and loves that day to day involvement.

The one thing I am hoping is that he will repeat what he did when resigning from Bournemouth. Spend a year with his family, take some time out, before he takes his next job.

When Chris Waddle says that Eddie Howe will take the job at whichever Premier League club presses the panic button first. Maybe he would take a job mid-season rather than having a year away from it all BUT I don’t think that he would take just any job.

Eddie Howe is a proven brilliant manager who succeeded agains the odds at Newcastle United, so for sure, in my opinion, if he takes a job at another Premier League club it will only be one with the resources that would allow him to have a chance of competing in a league where only six clubs have the financial power to do so. Why would he go to a club outside of those half dozen that have far more power to pay transfer fees and wages?
