Jorge Martin's quest for Aprilia’s maiden MotoGP crown in 2026 faces a fierce challenge as Marc Marquez looms just two points behind with five rounds remaining. The tension escalates ahead of the critical triple-header at Phillip Island, Sepang, and Qatar, where every lap could tip the championship balance.

At the recent Indonesian Grand Prix in Motegi, Martin struggled with tyre pressure issues, forcing him to cede the lead to Marquez, who triumphed in the Sprint race. Despite Martin securing third place in the main event and Marquez finishing sixth, Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia failed to score points after his first Grand Prix finish in Mandalika, keeping the title fight razor-close.
Max Biaggi, Aprilia ambassador and four-time 250cc world champion, has issued a stark warning to Martin, describing Marquez as the “most formidable rider” on the grid. Speaking to Gazzetta Motori, Biaggi praised the championship’s intensity but remained critical of Aprilia’s leading man: “Martin is a bit less incisive; he’s not the fastest, in my opinion, at the moment, but he’s a bit more consistent.” He also highlighted Ducati’s enduring strength and lamented the costly slump of Marco Bezzecchi, whose recent poor runs have drained approximately 100 points from his tally, a devastating blow in the title chase.
Alex Marquez, meanwhile, anticipates a tactical battle ahead, predicting that Marc will need to deploy his “usual tricks” to counter Aprilia’s expected advantage in Australia, Qatar, and Portugal. This triple-header represents a crucial proving ground, especially considering Marquez missed four of the last five races in 2025 due to a shoulder injury sustained in Indonesia.
Jorge Martin, the 2024 world champion, remains unfazed by the looming challenge. Having bounced back swiftly from an injury-hit 2025 season, Martin feels comfortable on the Aprilia RS-GP. Yet, with just a single victory so far this year against Marquez’s six wins in the last eleven races, Martin will need to significantly elevate his performance to fend off the relentless Ducati assault.
As the championship hurtles toward its climax, the battle between Martin and Marquez promises relentless drama, with Biaggi’s words underscoring the stakes: Marc Marquez remains MotoGP’s ultimate threat, and Martin must sharpen his edge if he wants to claim Aprilia’s historic title.
