Heads may roll in the Philadelphia Eagles team facility after an embarrassing loss to the rival Washington Commanders on Sunday Night Football.
After scoring the first ten points of the game with a field goal and a Saquon Barkley touchdown run, the Eagles gave up 27 unanswered points to a depleted Commanders roster to lose 27-10.
While the Eagles are missing starting quarterback Jalen Hurts, it was expected that Philadelphia would still manage to get past a Washington team that had only won a single game prior to this weekend.
But backup quarterback Tanner McKee only threw for 212 yards and tossed an interception. He also got sacked five times, including a strip-sack that directly led to a Commanders field goal.
Now at 2-6, league sources told NBC Sports Philadelphia's Ryan Fowler that changes may be swift and harsh in Eagles headquarters.
'This [Eagles] team is going to look very different come the bye... it's a loss that loses people their job,' the source told Fowler.
The report added: 'They just got their a** kicked back to back weeks in primetime, there will be changes.'
Despite how favored they were, it's understandable why the Eagles struggled – considering how injured they are.
In addition to Hurts, the Eagles were without star wide receivers DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks, starting linebacker Jihaad Campbell and backup running back Dameon Pierce among others.
All told, the Eagles have 14 players on Injured Reserve – with many of them serving as starters or key backups.
Still, the game against Washington was winnable and coach Nick Sirianni is now firmly on the hot seat.
'Until we coach better, until we have better... detail as coaches, until our players play with better detail, then we're gonna see the same results,' Sirianni told reporters after the game. 'And that falls on me... I feel like with all the detail that's not happening right now, I got to try a different approach.
'And so that, that 100% is on me with how many of those issues are happening right now. I'll do everything I can do to try different things to make sure that we're getting that point across.'
The Eagles play the NFC East-leading New York Giants on Sunday before a bye week provides some mid-season rest.
