Barry remain in sixth position in the Cymru Premier, following a frustrating 3-1 home defeat against Haverfordwest County, writes Ian Johnson.
Despite the swirling rain and winds during Storm Austen, Barry started well on Saturday night, and the home side should have taken a ninth minute lead.
Owen Cuddihy's low cross along the six-yard box beat everybody, but striker Elliot Dugan pushed the ball the wrong side of the post.
Barry thought they’d scored after 27 minutes, when Jack Shaw burst through the defence, sliding the ball to Noah Daley.
Daley’s shot hit the inside of the post and went in, but was ruled out for offside.
The visitors eventually took the lead after 41 minutes.
A corner from the Haverfordwest left wasn’t cleared, and the ball bounced up nicely for former Barry player Rhys Abbruzzesse to lash it through the defence into the net.
Just after the break, Ben Ahmun shot just wide of the far post for Haverfordwest, almost doubling their advantage, while Callum Sainty’s downward header for Barry nearly equalised after 55 minutes.
The game came to life with three goals in five minutes.
In the 79th minute, it seemed that a Haverfordwest attack had broken down, but they picked up the ball again, and Corey Shepherd beat George Ratcliffe at the front post to score.
It worsened for Barry as midfielder Owen Cuddihy, was sent off for a second yellow card after protesting for a foul in the build-up to the goal.
For just a moment, Barry were back in the game.
Mikey George’s 83rd minute free kick from the left was knocked down by Sainty and Daley pounced to score from close range.
A minute later, though, Haverfordwest made it 3-1.
Barry lost the ball at the back, and Haverfordwest capitalised, with Ahmun finding space and passing into the net from six yards.
Barry are home against Trefelin in the Cymru Premier on Friday night (7.45pm kick-off).
