Mississippi State is on the road to take on LSU, which is itching for a win after that disastrous loss to Kentucky. Early in the first quarter, with LSU leading 7-0, Bulldogs quarterback Billy Puckett, who is playing for the injured Kamario Taylor, threw a pass that appeared to have no clear target and was intercepted by LSU defensive back Ty Benefield.
Soon enough, fans took to social media to point out the mistake. Others blamed head coach Jeff Lebby.
“Billy, that’s the worst throw I’ve ever seen,” one fan said.
Kamario Taylor has been dealing with a foot injury he aggravated in the Oct. 3 loss to Alabama. He was seen on the sideline with a boot on his right foot during the fourth quarter and was initially listed as doubtful on Friday for Saturday’s game against LSU, but he was officially ruled out ahead of the game, leading to Billy Puckett getting the starting job.
Billy Puckett is now in his second season of college football, and he was actually a former walk-on who was an unranked quarterback prospect from Jackson Prep. Last season, he was the scout team quarterback for Mississippi State.
He rose up the ranks quickly, finally landing the QB2 position and donning MSU colors already. He has logged eight completions out of 14 attempts with 89 passing yards, no touchdowns, no interceptions, and 24 rushing yards this season ahead of the LSU game.
