Club Brugge will not sell Chelsea transfer target Nicolo Tresoldi for less than €50m (£42m), according to reports in the Italian media.
La Stampa claim that Xabi Alonso’s team, along with Manchester City, are the “two big names” pursuing the German Under-21 international.
It is believed that both Premier League clubs have made concrete approaches to Club Brugge, requesting information on Tresoldi.
Juventus and AC Milan are also in the mix, although the chances of either team winning the race for the player have been played down due to the presence of the Blues and City.
The 22-year-old has been in outstanding form so far this season. His goal against Zulte Waregem at the weekend has taken his total to 13 already this season, having made just 15 appearances.
Reports last month claimed that Chelsea had scouts in the stands when Tresoldi bagged a hat-trick against Saint-Truidense.
It appears that the race for the German’s signature is heating up, and there is a chance that he could be on the move during the January transfer window.
From the looks of things, Alonso is not happy with the two backup options he has for Joao Pedro. Since the Brazilian picked up a thigh injury, he has been reluctant to start either Danny Welbeck or Emmanuel Emegha in the Premier League.
Morgan Rogers played as a false nine in the 2-0 defeat to Tottenham and the 2-0 win over Manchester United in the absence of Pedro.
That suggests Alonso would prefer an alternative, with Tresoldi seemingly the one that the club’s recruitment team have identified as a target ahead of January.
