The hearts of Kansas City Chiefs fans skipped a beat when franchise QB Patrick Mahomes took a brutal shot in Sunday’s matchup against the New York Jets and visibly wore the pain.
Chiefs fans braced for disaster as their franchise quarterback lined up at the line of scrimmage for second-and-four at their own 39, with the team in control and up by two.
Jets edge rusher Bailey crashed around the edge, zeroed in on Mahomes, and hacked at his throwing arm as the quarterback tried to work from the shotgun. The ball popped loose and Mahomes blasted back for a six-yard loss.
Bailey got the forced fumble and his Jets teammate Will MacDonald pounced on the ball at the Kansas City 30 to get credit for the recovery.
Mahomes winced and clutched his arm as CBS cameras caught every movement and grimace, and Chiefs Kingdom held its breath.
The Kansas City QB made his way to the sideline with help from trainers while gripping his right elbow and forearm.
