When it comes to leaders at Man Utd, Bryan Mbeumo is not usually a name at the top of the boards, but he’s used Leny Yoro as an example to show that he’s one of them.
If there’s one thing Man Utd have missed in recent years, it’s the presence of strong personalities in the dressing room when things go rough.
Let's talk Manchester United RELEGATION
Bryan Mbeumo is not someone who is openly combative and explosive, but he’ll lead by example, in the sense that he will never let his own effort levels drop.
He’s now brought up a recent Leny Yoro moment to show that he’s a visible leader as well.
Mbeumo has a crucial role in the dressing room due to his multilingual abilities, with his French, in particular, helping Yoro immensely.
There’s the Cameroonian connection with Carlos Baleba as well, but Yoro’s age and difficult time at Old Trafford mean he’s a much more urgent project.
TalkingPoints
If Sir Alex Ferguson walked into Carrington tomorrow, what is the first thing he would change? It’s the 40th anniversary of Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United appointment! What was your favourite moment when he was in charge? 🏆
Yoro has come into his own this season despite being shifted around in his position, but a season like this is bound to have some shaky moments for everyone involved.
Mbeumo talked about one such moment against Bournemouth during the 3-0 loss, where Yoro blocked a shot, and while his teammates were all feeling sorry for themselves, he went to the Frenchman to encourage him and lift him up off the ground.
He said: “It’s one of the moments I’m talking about [Leny Yoro vs Bournemouth]. Leny is very young and he’s got a lot of talent. I know sometimes it can be a little difficult, but I always try to help as much as I can. Leny is one of them, of course.”
Mbeumo is starting to come into his own in his second season at the club, and it’s unfortunate that it has coincided with such a nightmare spell for the club.
Regardless, his effort levels and output show that he remains a crucial part of the furniture at Old Trafford, and he has the ability and potential to be a part of the next successful Man Utd squad.
His influence clearly stretches beyond what he does on the pitch, as this incident with Yoro proves.
