Manchester United have another reason to celebrate England’s international success after a Red Devils star scored a first-ever senior goal in a 3-1 victory over Greece.
United have enjoyed strong representation across England’s national teams, with Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo among the club’s most recognisable international players.
Both were part of England’s squad at the 2026 World Cup, where the Three Lions secured a bronze medal after finishing third.
Rashford made six appearances, scoring once and providing an assist.
Meanwhile, Mainoo endured a frustrating tournament, failing to play a single minute.
The tournament represented an encouraging achievement for England, although attention has since returned to domestic football.
Manchester United face Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday, with Michael Carrick desperate to improve his side’s disappointing Premier League form.
United have collected five points from five matches and sit 12th, while Tottenham are bottom with just two points.
Injuries have complicated preparations, with Patrick Dorgu, Benjamin Sesko and Noussair Mazraoui among Carrick’s fitness concerns.
Meanwhile, another Manchester United international has enjoyed a memorable evening representing England, reaching a significant personal milestone.
Manchester United captain Maya Le Tissier scored her first senior international goal as England defeated Greece 3-1 on Friday evening.
According to England Football’s official match report, the 24-year-old struck in the 63rd minute of their World Cup qualifying play-off first leg.
Georgia Stanway opened the scoring in the 39th minute before Le Tissier doubled England’s advantage with a powerful effort from a tight angle.
Alessia Russo added a third four minutes later, although Kallisti Brouksair pulled one back for Greece.
Le Tissier joined Manchester United from Brighton in July 2022 and became club captain in August 2024 following Katie Zelem’s departure.
She helped United win their first Women’s FA Cup in 2024 and was part of England’s victorious Euro 2025 squad.
Her international breakthrough provides another memorable achievement in a career that has already included several historic milestones.
Fellow United star Jess Park entered the match in the 73rd minute, while Ella Toone remained an unused substitute.
England will now take their two-goal advantage into Tuesday’s return leg in Leicester, hoping to move closer to qualification for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
