Steven Gerrard has excitedly updated his fans with family news, revealing that his son Lio is participating in his first football tournament. This comes just a few weeks after the announcement that his daughter is pregnant.
The former Liverpool captain frequently updates his numerous followers on social media about his family life, and in a post shared from his wife Alex's Instagram story, Gerrard showed young Lio ready for the tournament, with the caption "off on his first footy tournament" adorned with a football and plane emoji.
Back in May 2017, Gerrard joyfully announced Lio's birth on Instagram: "Lio George Gerrard was born this morning at 4.55am . Both are doing great. Our family is complete."
Last year, a clip of 7 year old Lio displaying his budding football skills took the internet by storm, suggesting he might one day emulate his famous father.
The Gerrards have also been sharing other significant family moments. Earlier in the month, Steven responded with delight to daughter Lilly-Ella's Instagram reveal that she and Lee Byrne—son of a convicted gangster—are expecting their first child, reports the Mirror.
Sharing a picture, Lilly-Ella wrote: "Our little secret. The best news, mini us is on the way."
A thrilled Gerrard is set to become a grandfather at the age of 45 later this year and commented on the post, "We cant wait. Great news and congratulations. We love you."
Lilly-Ella, the eldest daughter of football legend Steven Gerrard, has been officially dating her boyfriend Lee since October 2022. Lee has previously expressed his admiration for Lilly-Ella, saying she is "the best person he's ever met".
Her partner comes from a notable family; he is the son of Liam Byrne, a well-known Dubliner who was arrested in Spain in 2023 and subsequently sentenced to five years imprisonment in October 2024 on weapons charges.
Steven Gerrard, former Liverpool midfielder and now manager, along with his wife Alex Gerrard, are also proud parents to Lexie, 18, Lourdes, 13, and Lio. The family faced a significant decision when Gerrard took charge of Saudi Arabian football club Al Ettifaq.
However, they chose not to settle in Saudi Arabia, opting instead for Bahrain.
At 44, Gerrard is eager to steer his professional career back on course, especially as he anticipates the arrival of a new grandchild. Currently, there's considerable pressure on him due to Al Ettifaq's lacklustre performance this season; the team sits 11th in the league after securing only five wins in their first 16 games.
The club has seen major changes recently, with Dean Holden and Mark Allen departing, and Michael Beale coming in as assistant. Gerrard commented on these shifts: "The club made decisions regarding the departure of Mark Allen and Dean Holden. The decision was also made to bring Michael Beale in who is a super coach, we spent years together previously and it's great to have him back with me. Now we need some time to develop and improve."
