Kimi Antonelli set the fastest time of FP2 for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, as the 2026 world champion beat the 2025 champion Lando Norris to top spot by two and a half tenths.
The Italian, fresh off becoming the youngest champion in F1 history last weekend, went quickest with a 1:10.763. Norris finished second just 0.006 seconds ahead of Max Verstappen, with George Russell and Oscar Piastri also within a tenth of the lead McLaren.
It was not a happy session for Ferrari with Lewis Hamilton complaining about struggling to get tyre temperatures up in his car. Charles Leclerc, in his first session since becoming a father, appeared to be impeded by Rafael Camara's Haas. Camara, making his F1 debut this weekend, will be investigated after the session.
The two Ferraris finished in P6 and P7, with Gabriel Bortoleto, Isack Hadjar and Oliver Bearman rounding out the top 10. There had been reports of light drizzle during the session but any rain did not pick up, although heavier rain is forecast for Saturday and Sunday.
It marks a strong start to the weekend for both Antonelli and Norris, who also occupied the top two spots in FP1, although with the McLaren driver leading the way. Verstappen and Russell also finished third and fourth in FP1, with Hamilton fifth.
