Cristiano Ronaldo has built a property portfolio across several countries, but two homes in Portugal have a closer connection to his personal life. He once paid around $7 million for what was then the most expensive apartment ever sold in Lisbon. In Madeira, the island where he grew up, he owns a seven-storey building where his mother and brother reportedly live.
The 41-year-old announced on Thursday, November 5, that he would retire from Portugal’s national team after the November international break. He said he would hand back the famous No. 7 shirt, ending a career that began in August 2003 and lasted more than 23 years.

Ronaldo has played 234 international matches and scored 146 goals, both men's world records.
The announcement does not mean he is retiring from football immediately. Ronaldo is expected to continue playing club football for Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr. His decision marks the end of his international career, not necessarily his time on the pitch.
His final World Cup appearance came in July, when Portugal lost 1-0 to Spain in the Round of 16 in Dallas, Texas. Neither team scored during normal time. Spain's Mikel Merino came off the bench and scored in the 91st minute, sending Portugal out of the tournament.

Ronaldo had already said before that match that the 2026 tournament would be his last World Cup. He left the pitch looking emotional after the defeat. Portugal's exit also ended his chance to win the one major international trophy missing from his career.

Away from football, Ronaldo's connection to Madeira remains visible through his family home in Funchal. He converted a former warehouse and nightclub near the city's port into a seven-storey property. The building, completed in 2019, has an indoor pool, two gyms and a rooftop pool. His mother and brother are reported to live there full-time.
Ronaldo also made headlines in Lisbon's property market. In 2015, he paid around $7 million for a three-bedroom apartment covering about 3,100 square feet. The property was described as the most expensive apartment ever sold in the Portuguese capital at the time. It includes a spa, gym, indoor and rooftop pools, and a terrace overlooking the city.
Cristiano Ronaldo's property investments in Portugal go well beyond his record-breaking Lisbon apartment. He reportedly paid around $7 million for the three-bedroom home, which was once the most expensive apartment ever sold in the city. He also owns another apartment on Avenida da Liberdade, one of Lisbon's most expensive streets, reportedly bought for around $2 million.
His property portfolio also includes a reported €35 million estate in Quinta da Marinha, near Cascais. The eight-bedroom mansion reportedly has two swimming pools, a private beach, a cinema and an underground garage.
