Derek McInnes was not pleased with some aspects of his Rangers players as they dropped two points against Dundee at Dens Park.
Rangers played out a 2-2 draw against Dundee on Saturday night, and despite taking the lead, failed to hold on to it.
Dan Neil’s error cost the visitors the win, and it was not an overall team performance that was worth writing home about.

Missed the chance to go top 😤
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, McInnes made it clear that he wanted his players to be more clinical. Both goals Rangers scored were wonder strikes from Badredine Bouanani and Nicolas Raskin, and not ones that came from a good build up.
While the 55-year-old acknowledges that they cannot maintain high energy for 90 minutes, he wanted his side to push a bit more. In his view, they got punished for mistakes made.
He said: “The speed, that’s where we need to try and get to. I know you can’t maintain that for 90 minutes, but those standards of 20-25 minutes shows what the team’s capable of if you play with that intensity. And unfortunately for us, we never quite got that back.
“We had a few chances once we went to three, and based on penalty box touches, shots and all the rest of it, we should be scoring more than two goals. But like I say, we got punished for a mistake, and, you know, Dundee are a good team, but I thought we gifted an opportunity there not to take all three points.”
“Second half, and you just think when you’re going down that slope towards our fans, you just think there’s another goal coming, there’s another goal coming. In fact, it comes from Nico, but we had so many better chances than that one to put the game, or take the game away from Dundee. And as I say, it’s something we need to be far better at.”
The Gers boss believes that two goals should have been enough for his side to pick up the three points and he wants the players to stop gifting goals to the opponents. While he did not throw Neil under the bus, it’s clear that he was one of those the manager was talking about.
What do you make of the ratings?
He also acknowledged the fans for being “magnificent” and was disappointed that the team could not perform up to those levels.
McInnes added: “We’ve been gifting; this is the same theme for me a lot of the time when we’ve had dominant performances, but not really had the goals to show for it. But that’s not what’s undone us too. Two goals should have been enough tonight, and, you know, I thought we kept Dundee at arm’s length the majority of the second half.
“But they’re a good attacking set, Dundee. Two wide players who work the system well, two centre-forwards who never give you a minute, and they play forward and mix the game up at the right times. So we’re disappointed not to come away with three points.
“The fans were magnificent tonight, and we just weren’t magnificent for as long as we needed to be to win the game.”
