Bayern Munich will go into Wednesday's marquee matchup against Arsenal without one of its biggest stars.
Michael Olise will be suspended for the Champions League match at Allianz Arena after picking up a red card in last week's 3-3 draw against Viking.
Olise was shown two yellow cards in two minutes during the match in Norway. The winger picked up a yellow for a tactical foul, then responded to some verbal provocation from Viking captain Zlatko Tripić by throwing the ball at his head.
The referee quickly produced a second yellow, marking the first red card of Olise's career.
Olise's loss will be a blow for Bayern, with the French international continuing to burnish his reputation as one of the world's best players. The 24-year-old has nine goals and five assists from 10 games in all competitions for Bayern.
“Missing one of your biggest players, you’re going to feel it for sure, but that’s where other people have to step up and show they can take their opportunity,” Bayern forward Harry Kane said.
“We talk about the squad a lot, we talk about being ready for your moment and whoever plays will have to be ready.”
The match on Wednesday will feature two of the best sides in Europe. Arsenal, the defending Premier League champion and Champions League runner-up, has won 10 of 11 games in all competitions to start the season.
Bayern, meanwhile, is unbeaten with six wins and three draws in nine total games thus far.
