The Dallas Cowboys have underwhelmed this season, but their most disappointing loss of the campaign came on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. Dallas seemed poised for a victory in the fourth quarter before Arizona benched quarterback Jacoby Brissett for Gardner Minshew, who led the Cardinals to a 33-30 comeback win in overtime.
Dallas is now 3-5 on the season, but they still sit in second place in the NFC East behind the 4-2-1 New York Giants. Where do the Cowboys go from here? Can they still make the playoffs after this embarrassing loss? Should they look to make any changes? Pro Football Network asked our NFL analysts to weigh in on Dallas’ outlook.
“For Dallas, it might be time to move on from Brian Schottenheimer, ride out the year, and target a coach in 2027 who perhaps has pre-existing experience in the role, but also offers a better feel for schematics and situational awareness.”
“The Cowboys are third in the league in points scored with 219, but they only have 6 net points. There is no way of sugar coating it, this is a mess for the Cowboys, and they need to make a change on their defense to try and fix something. The Cowboys still sit with 13.7% chance of winning the division and a 15.2% chance of making the playoffs in our simulations. If they can figure it out defensively, the offense is good enough, but it is hard to see them winning a playoff game with a defense that ranks 32nd in PFN’s Defense Impact metric, 32nd against the pass, and 31st against the run.”
