Daniel Farke will be a frustrated manager as Leeds United bottled a one-goal lead to lose 2-1 against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in their first Premier League game after the international break on Saturday, 10 October.
As expected, Arsenal started the game on the front foot and saw a lot of the ball, but Leeds United grew into the game. With Daniel Farke’s back-three system keeping the Gunners at bay, the Whites managed to carve out chances for themselves, putting the hosts on alert.
Leeds United’s best chance of the first half came when Gabriel Gudmunsson whipped in a cross from the left-hand side to the far post. The ball was met by Anton Stach, whose volley, though, was blocked by Jayden Bogle after the wing-back got into the line of fire, drawing criticism from Joe Cole.
Any suggestion of Mikel Arteta’s half-time talk swinging the game back in Arsenal’s favour was put to bed by Leeds United, who began the second half as the better side. It ultimately led to the Elland Road outfit taking the lead via a brilliant goal from James Justin, courtesy of a Gabriel Gudmundsson cross.
Much to Leeds United’s frustration, Arsenal grabbed an equaliser seven minutes later, with Gudmundsson and James Trafford at fault. Arteta’s substitutions gave the hosts further boost, with Bruno Guimaraes giving them the lead in the 70th minute with an incredible team goal.
James Trafford – 4
The goalkeeper proved to be an assured figure in goal, as he saved Martin Odegaard’s low driven shot to the bottom-left corner. However, Trafford left much to be desired after he failed to do enough to deny Riccardo Calafiori’s equaliser, with the ball essentially going into the back of the net through the shot-stopper’s gloves.
James Justin (Off for Lukas Nmecha 79′) – 7
Justin put Leeds United in front with a stunning first-time finish, getting on the scoresheet at the Emirates Stadium once again.
Nico Elvedi (Off for Jaka Bijol 86′)- 5
After impressing on international duty with Switzerland, Elvedi had a decent outing until Arsenal turned things around. He was fuming with himself after Calafiori nicked the equaliser after peeling away from him.

Tarik Muharemovic – 6
One of Leeds’ best players of the season, Muharemovic put in another steady performance, although he was booked on this occasion.
Jayden Bogle (Off for Jean-Matteo Bahoya 86′)- 5
Bogle was guilty of blocking Anton Stach’s goal-bound shot in the first half.
Ethan Ampadu – 5
The captain had his name taken just moments after Ao Tanaka for a lunging tackle on Ben White.
Anton Stach – 6
Stach was unlucky not to score after Bogle blocked his goal-bound shot. The German was very impressive, covering a lot of ground on both ends of the pitch.
Ao Tanaka (Off for Brenden Aaronson 71′) – 5
The Japan international was booked for stopping a counter-attack in the first half. Tanaka got the away crowd going when he forced a finger-tip save from David Raya early on in the second half.
Gabriel Gudmundsson – 7.5
The Swede was an influential figure down the left-hand side, whipping in dangerous balls into the box. He forced a terrific save from Raya in the first half, and would have been surprised to have not found the back of the net with his effort.
Gudmundsson went on to provide the assist for Justin’s goal with another whipped ball from the left. The left wing-back, though, was at fault for Arsenal’s equaliser, as he left White run free in the danger area, allowing the Englishman to set up Calafiori for the goal.
Noah Okafor (Off for Harry Wilson 71′) – 3
Okafor’s decision-making left much to be desired at times, especially when he overhit a through ball to Stach, who was through on goal.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 7
Incredible hold-up play in the first half. Ally McCoist on commentary was quick to point out how he was being let down by teammates around him, especially Stach, who gave the ball away cheaply on one occasion.
Brenden Aaronson (On for Ao Tanaka 71′) – 5
