The Oklahoma Sooners fell again on Saturday, this time to the then-No. 15 Kentucky Wildcats in Norman. This marked the Sooners' third loss of the season and turned a once-promising season into a disaster.
Oklahoma is almost assuredly out of College Football Playoff contention after making it last season. While the offense hasn't had many bright spots, as it's one of the worst units in the country, sophomore wide receiver Manny Choice showed out on Saturday.
Oklahoma has desperately needed a wide receiver to step up alongside Isaiah Sategna with Trell Harris out. Choice might be that guy. He caught five passes for 98 yards. He showed he can make plays after the catch and high-point a ball to make a contested catch with a defender in good coverage.
Choice spoke about his breakout performance on Monday.
"It felt great," Choice said via SoonerScoop. "Practice habits becoming game reality. It felt great, and I'm trying to build on that."
Choice's emergence could give Oklahoma a much-needed boost as the offense looks for dependable playmakers for the remainder of the season. His 98-yard performance against Kentucky showed he can contribute in multiple ways, whether creating yards after the catch or winning contested balls downfield. With Harris sidelined, continued production from Choice alongside Sategna could give John Mateer another reliable target and make the Sooners harder to defend.
The key now is consistency. One breakout performance does not solve Oklahoma's broader offensive struggles, but it gives the coaching staff a promising option to build around. If Choice can carry his practice habits into upcoming games and keep earning opportunities, he could become a key part of the Sooners' passing attack. For a team searching for answers after another disappointing loss, his development is one positive to carry into next week.
