Panthers have lost stunning amount of projected workload to injuries in 2026

Given the mounting injuries they've been dealt here in 2026, the Carolina Panthers may want to consider adding a witch doctor to their staff.

The pain began early on in training camp, with the season-ending knee tears to rookie wideout Chris Brazzell II and starting outside linebacker Nic Scourton. Since then, the Panthers have had a dozen other significant setbacks—and even with the recent returns of several players, they're still hurting bad.

Right tackle Taylor Moton is the latest to fall. After just returning to the lineup in Week 6 from being sidelined for months due to blood clots, the longtime hog molly went down with a broken fibula in Sunday's 43-13 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He, per head coach Dave Canales, will obviously miss quite a bit of time.

And at this point, according to Mike Sando at The Athletic, the Panthers have lost nearly one quarter of their projected workload to injuries. Only one team has had it worse.

Sando writes:

By my estimates, Carolina has lost 24 percent of its projected workload to injury (edge rusher Nic Scourton and receiver Chris Brazzell were lost to season-ending injuries in camp, while cornerbacks Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson are also out). That is the second-highest figure in the league.

As it happens, that team is the Green Bay Packers, who will be hosting the Panthers on Thursday night to begin Week 8.

Despite a barrage of bad luck, Green Bay is in the thick of an extremely competitive NFC North race. Meanwhile, Carolina's lead in the NFC South is looking perilously thin, especially after the Atlanta Falcons upset the previously-undefeated San Francisco 49ers in Week 7.
