Team News & What to Watch For

This is these Western Conference franchises' first game of the new 2026-2027 NBA regular season. After three or five test runs each in preseason, both head coaches should have more of an idea of their best teams by now heading into this one.

• Portland Trail Blazers: Portland reached the playoffs in 2025-2026 by finishing fourth in the Northwest Division and eighth in the Western Conference. In the first round of they playoffs, however, they fell 1-4 to the San Antonio Spurs. Preseason was short with three games, yet positive as they put together a 2-1 record including a victory over the Golden State Warriors.

• Phoenix Suns: In a similar fashion, the Suns finished second in the Pacific Division and seventh in the Western Conference only to fall 0-4 to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round of the playoffs. They played more than the Trail Blazers' three games, but went a concerning 1-4 in preseason.
