Tottenham loanee to get first taste of fiercest rivals Arsenal in the FA Cup

Arsenal will be facing Portsmouth FC in their opening FA Cup fixture, starting next year.

Tottenham Hotspur have been having a rather chaotic first season under Thomas Frank at Hotspur Way. But while the Lilywhites try to find their way under the Dane head coach, one of the North Londoners’ loanees is about to walk into the biggest spotlight of his career so far. And it just so happens to be against Spurs’ fiercest rivals.

Yang Min-hyeok set for Arsenal audition

Tottenham loanee Yang Min-hyeok will face Arsenal in the FA Cup with Portsmouth

South Korean winger Yang Min-hyeok, who is currently on loan at Portsmouth in the Championship, is set to face Arsenal in the FA Cup third round. This will be his first-ever game playing against a Premier League opposition since he came to English shores. Mikel Arteta’s high-flying Gunners are set to kick off their 2025/26 FA Cup campaign with a third-round tie at Fratton Park.

For someone who has been pushing to gain some limelight and get himself in a conversation at Hotspur Way, this shapes up to be a perfect audition. While he has had loan spells with QPR before and now he is with Portsmouth, he is yet to make his first-team debut for Tottenham.

Recently the 19-year-old got his first league start in six games for Pompey, but the game ended up being abandoned because of a medical emergency in the stands.

And now instead of easing his way into the debate among the Lilywhites supporters, he is staring down to face an Arsenal side that is stacked with some top-quality players.

While this is more of a free hit game for Portsmouth, a wide section of Tottenham supporters will be tuning into the game to see how Yang does.

Now from Tottenham’s point of view, you want to see how a young player does when he is thrown at the far end. And what better test than facing a side that is at the top of the English chain of command.

He hasn’t had a run of consistent minutes for his temporary employers yet, and if he can show his flair in this game, it could end up setting a tone for his second half of the season and future beyond the next summer window.

For Tottenham, Thomas Frank & Co. are set to host Unai Emery’s Aston Villa for the FA Cup third-round fixture.

Do you think facing Arsenal is a huge opportunity for Yang Min-hyeok to fast-track his name among conversations at Hotspur Way? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
