Sir Harry Kane someday? Ballon d'Or winner hints at knighthood wish

Harry Kane's Ballon d'Or triumph has sparked calls for a knighthood after a prolific season with Bayern Munich and England. The striker is open to the idea of becoming Sir Harry, but admits he would feel strange hearing everyone address him by the title.

Harry Kane

Harry Kane has conquered the world of football, winning the Ballon d'Or after a sensational season with Bayern Munich and England. A knighthood could be the next honour to come his way, although the England captain admits that getting used to being called 'Sir Harry' might take some time.

Speaking to German newspaper BILD, the Bayern striker responded to the growing calls for him to receive the honour with a touch of humour. While Kane admitted that the title would sound appealing, he suggested he would prefer to stick with the name everyone knows him by for now.

"It would sound good! But I'd feel weird when everyone calls me Sir. So we'll just keep it as Harry for now," Kane told BILD.

The 33-year-old became the first Englishman since Michael Owen in 2001 to win the Ballon d'Or, joining an elite list that includes Sir Stanley Matthews, Sir Bobby Charlton and Kevin Keegan. He finished ahead of Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappe and Barcelona's Lamine Yamal in the voting for the 2026 award.

THE NUMBERS BEHIND KANE'S BALLON D'OR WIN

Kane's claim to football's biggest individual prize was backed by extraordinary numbers. He scored 73 goals in 65 appearances for club and country during the 2025-26 season, including 61 goals for Bayern Munich and 12 for England. He also registered eight assists across those appearances.

His 36 Bundesliga goals earned him a third consecutive Golden Boot, while he scored 14 times in the Champions League as Bayern reached the semi-finals. Kane also helped the German club win the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Franz Beckenbauer Supercup, completing a domestic treble. For England, he scored six goals at the 2026 World Cup as the Three Lions finished third.

Kane also collected the Gerd Mller Trophy for the best men's goalscorer, making it a memorable night for the Bayern forward.

WILL KANE BECOME SIR HARRY?

Kane's Ballon d'Or triumph has fuelled calls for him to receive a knighthood in recognition of his contribution to English football. However, no decision has been announced, and the possibility remains a matter of speculation.

For now, Kane can enjoy a career-defining achievement without worrying about a new title. After years of goals, records and trophies, the Ballon d'Or is finally his. As for becoming Sir Harry, the England captain seems happy to leave that conversation for another day.
