When LeBron James left the Los Angeles Lakers to join the Philadelphia 76ers, many on social media predicted that his son’s time in Los Angeles could also be coming to an end. While the Lakers decided to keep the 22-year-old guard, his recent performances have only raised more questions about his future.
With the 2026 NBA preseason now over, Bronny James has caught the attention of the basketball world, but certainly not for the reasons he would have wanted.
Popular NBA content page “Hoop Central” recently shared Bronny’s statistics from the Lakers’ preseason games against the Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors, and Denver Nuggets on X.
The post soon went viral, and reactions from the NBA world started pouring in.
Bronny entered the league as the 55th pick in the second round of the 2024 NBA draft after he was selected by the Lakers. From day one, there was a lot of doubt from the NBA world. Many argued he was only in the league because of his father’s name.
After the preseason numbers, one influencer put it bluntly and wrote, “Unfortunately, he’s wasting a roster spot on the Lakers. He lacks the pro-level confidence to be a consistent rotation player. He doesn’t have any separating NBA skills & can’t run an offense. I really hope he gets a chance to actually develop on another team (same w/Dalton).”
Bronny opened the preseason with 3 points in the October 5 win at Sacramento. That was followed by 4 points in the October 6 loss at Golden State and another 4 points in the October 8 home win over the Kings.
Then things got worse. He went scoreless in the October 13 loss to the Warriors in Las Vegas, and again in the October 16 preseason finale loss to Denver. After seeing that run, one X user wrote, “Career over.”
While most fans criticized Bronny James for his disappointing performances, some still had faith in the young guard. One X user suggested that Bronny might perform better once the regular season begins and the games start to matter. They said, “Wait till the real games start.”
Another user pointed out that Bronny has never been particularly impressive during the preseason and could still turn things around when the regular season gets underway. They said, “Good player; he never shows out in preseason anyway.”
However, with the King no longer in Los Angeles, Bronny will have to establish his own identity and prove that he deserves a spot on the Lakers’ roster. Whether he can silence his critics once the regular season begins remains to be seen.
