Youri Tielemans has urged Man Utd NOT to sack Michael Carrick – What do you make of his comments?
Chelsea are fifth in the Premier League table and have won two of their last five league matches ahead of the Blues hosting Manchester United at Stamford Bridge. United manager Michael Carrick was left fighting for his managerial future after the Red Devils’ latest setback last weekend. United hosted Bournemouth at Old Trafford last Sunday and the Red Devils suffered a 3-0 Premier League defeat.
Carrick had been facing the sack after Man Utd’s home performance against Bournemouth, but it emerged on Tuesday that Ineos were ready to back him to turn the tide back in his favour. Opta Analyst has now crunched the numbers ahead of the Stamford Bridge clash by predicting Chelsea vs United through simulations.
According to Opta’s supercomputer, Chelsea have a whopping 51.8 per cent chance of beating United and collecting all three Premier League points on Saturday. Carrick’s side received only a 23.7 per cent chance of winning, while the supercomputer predicted a 24.6 per cent chance of the Premier League points being shared at the weekend.
United In Focus took the supercomputer’s percentages and quantified the exact number of results based on the actual simulations. As Opta’s supercomputer is based on 10,000 simulations for Premier League matches, Chelsea came out on top in 5,180 matches in the method implemented.
United defeated Chelsea across 2,370 simulations, while a Premier League draw between the Red Devils and Chelsea played out across 2,460 simulations.
To compare the supercomputer’s findings with real-life data, Transfermarkt has the Premier League statistics for United and Chelsea’s overall head-to-head record. According to Transfermarkt, Man Utd and Chelsea have played 195 times across all competitions and the Red Devils have 83 wins compared with the Blues’ 57 victories.
A total of 55 draws have been played out between United and Chelsea ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash. Man Utd’s showdown with the Blues at Stamford Bridge is slated for a 12:30 pm kick-off time in the UK.
