Aston Villa have confirmed Lucas Digne's departure for Paris Saint-Germain

Lucas Digne has completed his move to Paris Saint-Germain from Aston Villa . The French and European champions activated Digne's release clause, understood to be around £8 million, to secure his return to the club.

Having come through the youth ranks at Lille, Digne joined PSG in 2013 and won seven trophies during his first spell in the French capital.

Although the 33-year-old endured a difficult night against Spain in the World Cup semi-finals, it is understood PSG were impressed by his performances earlier in the tournament and believe his experience will be a valuable addition to Luis Enrique's squad.

Digne leaves Villa having lifted the first European trophy of his career, helping Unai Emery's side win the Europa League in May.

Signed from Everton in January 2022 for £25 million, the Frenchman went on to make 182 appearances for the club.

Villa have considered several left-back options to replace Digne and are expected to sign Matteo Ruggeri from Atletico Madrid.

A £17 million deal for the Italy international has been broadly agreed, with the transfer set to be completed shortly.
