Who could England meet in the Nations League quarter-finals?

  1. Are England through? Not mathematically but after the Tuesday's win over the Czech Republic, they are all but guaranteed to finish in the top two in group A3 with Spain. The big question is the order in which they finish. With two games left, Spain head the group by three points. England will probably need to win their final group match in Spain to top the group.
  2. How the quarter-finals work: The draw pairs the four League A group winners against the four group runners-up in two-legged knockout ties. Group winners are seeded and play the second leg at home. Teams cannot be drawn against an opponent they have already played in the group stage.
  3. Who could England face? As it stands, England would face a group winner from League A. At present, the other leaders are France, the Netherlands and Portugal. However, things could change over the final group two matches. If they do, Italy, Belgium, Greece, Germany and Denmark are potential opponents.
  4. When the draw takes place: The draw for the knockout stage takes place in late November 2026, following the conclusion of the group stage fixtures. UEFA will conduct the draw at its headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, to establish both the quarter-final match-ups and the semi-final paths.
  5. Date of the quarter-final ties: The quarter-finals will take place between March 25 and March 30, 2027. Extra time and penalties will be used to separate the sides if necessary.
  6. Final stage: Winning the two-legged quarter-final tie would earn England a place in the single-leg final four stage in a neutral country from June 9 to June 13, 2027. This final knockout event consists of two semi-finals, a third-place play-off and the final to crown the Nations League champions.
