The Los Angeles Rams’ difficult season suffered another major blow with an injury to Davante Adams.
Sean McVay’s LA Rams have a ‘season from hell’ vibe at present. The recent loss to the Arizona Cardinals left them with a 2-4 record, and fourth place in the NFC West.
In addition to a kicker crisis, and an opening week injury for Myles Garrett, reliable wide receiver Davante Adams is out with injury. Adams had 480 yards from 30 receptions and four touchdowns.
Adams has a hamstring injury and his return is estimated at six-10 weeks. What state will the Rams be in by then?
The Rams offense will rely on Puka Nacua, but they also need somebody else to step up. The player being tipped to do so is wide receiver Konata Mumpfield.
Mumpfield was a seventh round pick in 2025, and has previously earned praise from head coach Sean McVay.
Speaking to Rams Wire in 2025, McVay said: “Konata [Mumpfield] came in as a rookie and is mature beyond his years. He reminded me of some of our defensive rookies last year.
“He has great demeanor, great disposition and great understanding of the game from a big picture perspective. I think he’s wired to be able to win from the slot or on the outside. He’s done a great job.”
Mumpfield played a limited role in his rookie season, bringing in 10 receptions for 92 yards, and one touchdown. He added a further three receptions in the playoffs.
Speaking at training camp in August this year, Mumpfield again earned praise from McVay.
McVay said: “He’s stepped up a lot… he’s a sharp, savvy route-runner. He’s wired to be able to separate.
“He’s catching the ball really well and he does a great job of competing without the football, which is super important for us, so I love everything Mump’s about.”
Konata Mumpfield has already exceeded his yardage totals from last season, through his first six games of 2026.
Mumpfield has 127 yards from eight receptions and one touchdown.
Now with Davante Adams out, Mumpfield’s role could be elevated, and this is the perfect time for a breakout.
While you can never rule out the Rams making a trade for a receiver before the deadline, Mumpfield can show them they don’t need to.
Next up they face the Raiders followed by the Chargers as they look to get back to a .500 record.
