Former NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines has nothing but praise for Sophie Cunningham.
Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham is back in the news for another controversy during the offseason following an early playoff exit.
This time, Cunningham had a short yet powerful message for the girls of Washington High School. The girls reportedly refused to play against a boy who was pretending to be a girl.
Cunningham praised the girls, and her ‘good work’ message had former NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines applauding the Fever guard’s actions.
Over the past few months, Cunningham has been called out by several fans and analysts over her rigid stance on keeping biological men and boys out of women and girls’ sports.
Sophie Cunningham commended the Washington high school girls who have refused to compete against a boy pretending to be a girl. “Good work girls,” she wrote. Good for Sophie, who continues to be brave in a world of women’s sports filled with cowards. https://t.co/p5s3jM9Qof

This dedication to her stance had Gaines impressed, as she had a solid message for the Fever guard’s ‘moral conviction.’
“Most people with large platforms cave and issue a groveling apology the minute they get a little pushback. Not Sophie Cunningham. Good for her. This type of moral conviction is so rare,” Gaines wrote on X.
Even though Cunningham’s stance has led to many wanting the Fever to cut ties with her, she refuses to stand down.

More importantly, as Gaines mentioned, Sophie is unapologetic about her actions as she believes in her viewpoint.
