Arsenal came away from the Allianz Arena with a hard-earned 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich, but there was a worry hanging over the result.

Bukayo Saka was forced off inside the first 10 minutes with the game still goalless. He went down after striking the ball across the pitch and couldn’t continue. Before heading down the tunnel, he had a quick word with Mikel Arteta and appeared to point to his left quad.

Mikel Arteta gives first verdict on Bukayo Saka’s injury

Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, Arteta was asked what Saka had told him and whether it looked serious.

“They are a bit concerned,” he said. “A player that has to come off with a really sharp pain is never good news, but we’ll have to wait and see.”

It’s too early to say how long Saka could be out, and Arsenal will know more once he has been assessed. A sharp pain after striking the ball suggests a muscular problem, but until the club gives an update, the severity remains unclear.

Arsenal have Everton next in the Premier League, and if Saka isn’t available, Arteta will have to consider his options carefully. When Eberechi Eze came on in Munich, Noni Madueke switched from the left to the right, where he played most of his football before this season, while Eze took over on the left and scored within 15 minutes.

Max Dowman is another option, and will now be seen as the natural backup at right wing at the very least. If Madueke is still preferred on the opposite flank, Dowman could play a bigger role on the right.

Fingers crossed that Saka’s injury isn’t too serious and nothing like the hamstring injury that kept him out for several months in the 2024/25 season.
