West Bromwich Albion have had an excellent start to the 2026/27 campaign, carrying on from where they left off under James Morrison last time around, but may be forced to delve into the market in the upcoming winter window.
West Brom are looking to continue their rise under head coach Morrison this season, and after a huge summer rebuild, have managed to maintain their good form under the Scot.
With five wins in their opening ten league games, Baggies supporters will be hoping their side can continue on this sort of trajectory throughout the year and avoid any major hiccups, although Morrison will have no choice but to be wary of his right-back options now after a recent injury blow.
French right-back Nolan Galves made the move to the Hawthorns in the summer despite interest from numerous other Championship clubs, including Millwall, Southampton, and Queens Park Rangers.
The 23-year-old has excelled in the previous two seasons in the French second tier with Rodez, and made the move to the Black Country to become Morrison's new starting right-back, with Alfie Gilchrist heading out on loan to Leyton Orient.
Galves started each of the first five Championship games for the Baggies, and after Brayann Pereira was red-carded against Derby County, he came off the bench to replace Harry Whitwell in the 37th minute.
However, his game wouldn't last much longer, as the Frenchman would suffer a knee injury, ruling him out for the remainder of the season, with it requiring surgery, as Morrison may have no choice but to delve into the market come January, as a familiar face could become available.
With Galves out for the foreseeable future, this leaves just Pereira as the club's only other right-back option for now, but with the January window just over a couple of months away, the Baggies may be lining up potential stopgaps in the market.
Following promotion to the Premier League with Ipswich Town, Darnell Furlong has seen his game time slashed, with Dara O'Shea and Abdoul Ouattara preferred in that position by Gary O'Neil.
Furlong, 30, joined the Tractor Boys in the summer of 2025 from West Brom for around £4 million, and made 40 Championship appearances under Kieran McKenna, but now looks unlikely to earn many meaningful minutes in the top flight, as a January exit ought to be on the cards.
Furlong came through the ranks of Queens Park Rangers and would spend time out on loan with the likes of Northampton Town, Cambridge United, and Swindon Town before making the permanent move to West Brom in the summer of 2019.
The Englishman would go on to make 247 appearances across all competitions for the Baggies, including remaining a mainstay in the Premier League, and becoming a firm fan favourite in that time.

With over 300 Championship games under his belt across his career, players don't come much more experienced than Furlong, and if his minutes are still lacking in January, West Brom should be doing everything in their power to bring him back to the club, even only if on a short-term deal.
His experience would be invaluable to Morrison in the hunt for promotion, and adding another solid option in that position to mentor the inexperienced Pereira, Furlong could be the signing that helps the Baggies get across the line.

Regardless of what happens between now and January, another right-back option simply must be on the cards for West Brom, as if they are to stand a real chance at promotion, they cannot solely rely upon Pereira for the rest of the year.
Furlong knows the club and division, and with a lack of minutes at Ipswich, he could be allowed to leave come January, even if only on loan.
