Nazma Khan sent Jemimah an Insta DM about her dream. Now, she has a WPL deal

A year ago, Nazma Khan messaged Jemimah Rodrigues about her dream of playing alongside the Indian batter. On Wednesday, Delhi Capitals brought that dream a step closer to reality by signing Nazma for Rs 10 lakh at the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2027 mini-auction.

Nazma Khan sent Jemimah Rodrigues

Jemimah Rodrigues was about to text Nazma Khan when she stumbled upon a message the all-rounder had sent her a year ago. Back then, Nazma had spoken about her dream of playing alongside her idol. On Wednesday, that dream moved a step closer to reality after Delhi Capitals signed her for Rs 10 lakh at the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2027 mini-auction.

Jemimah shared a screenshot of the old message on her Instagram story, revealing how she had come across it while opening the app to text her new Delhi Capitals teammate.

"Opened Instagram just now to text Nazma and stumbled upon a message from her a year ago. One year later, the manifestation is real. Welcome to the family," Jemimah wrote.

Nazma had spoken about wanting to share the field with Jemimah and be part of a team that could win together. She had also hoped that the Indian batter would see her message one day. A year later, the two would be part of the same WPL franchise.

For Jemimah, finding the message just as Nazma became her teammate made the signing particularly special. What began as a wish sent on Instagram had come back into focus at a moment when the two cricketers were about to share a dressing room.

Delhi Capitals also shared the exchange on social media, encouraging fans to keep believing in their dreams.

"Reminder that manifestation works. Keep trying. Never stop believing. It will all work out in the end," the franchise wrote.

CAPITALS SIGN FOUR PLAYERS AT WPL AUCTION

Delhi Capitals signed four players at the WPL 2027 mini-auction, picking up Kiran Navgire for Rs 75 lakh and signing Nazma Khan, Kashvi Kandikuppa and Scotland's Kirstie Gordon for Rs 10 lakh each.

The franchise will head into the new season looking to put an end to a run of four successive runner-up finishes. Delhi have reached the final in every edition of the WPL so far but are yet to win the title.

Jemimah will lead a squad that includes established names such as Shafali Verma, Marizanne Kapp, Annabel Sutherland and Laura Wolvaardt. Gordon adds another overseas spin option, while the Indian signings provide further depth.

Delhi did not sign a specialist wicketkeeper at the auction, leaving Madiwala Mamatha as their only wicketkeeping option in the squad.

Delhi Capitals' WPL 2027 squad: Marizanne Kapp, Jemimah Rodrigues, Annabel Sutherland, Shafali Verma, Sree Charani, Chinelle Henry, Laura Wolvaardt, Kiran Navgire, Niki Prasad, Minnu Mani, Nandni Sharma, Kirstie Gordon, Lucy Hamilton, Uma Kashvi, Nazma Khan, Madiwala Mamatha and Deeya Yadav.
