The Arizona Cardinals, following their 33-30 overtime win in overtime over the Dallas Cowboys on the road, are now 3-5. They are in last place in the NFC West, but they are behind the LA Rams and Seattle Seahawks by only a game.
They are proving to be something more than the doormats of the league, one of the three worst teams.
That win over the Cowboys shifted things a little bit. In the latest NFL power rankings from NFL.com's Nick Shook, the Cardinals made the largest leap in rankings of the week, moving up seven slots.
After falling to No. 30 overall, they jumped up to No. 23.
Jacoby Brissett was benched (and might be a trade candidate), Gardner Minshew replaced him (and is the starter moving forward), and Tyler Allgeier went bananas in a wild comeback win over the Cowboys, giving the Cardinals their second upset victory in three weeks. They aren’t quite turning the corner -- and they might be without Jeremiyah Love for a while after a new ankle injury -- but they’re battling and are making for an intriguing trade partner as we near the Nov. 10 deadline.
They moved ahead of the Cowboys, who fell to No. 24. The teams below them all qualify as disasters (Dallas, Washington, Tennessee, Miami, New Orleans, Jets, Chargers and Indianapolis), but at least, for now, the Cardinals suddenly find themselves in a situation above them.
We will see moving forward, as they face the Seahawks, Rams and Kansas City Chiefs in the next three games with a bunch of players hurt.
The San Francisco 49ers, idle in Week 8, fell from No. 1 to No. 2.
The Seahawks, after a 34-17 loss to the Chicago Bears, fell three spots to No. 7.
The Rams, beating the winless LA Chargers 24-9, moved up three spots to No. 18.
