Man City youngster Allan earns first Brazil call-up despite 10 Premier League minutes
Man City youngster earns first Brazil call-up despite just 10 Premier League minutes

Manchester City youngster Allan Elias has earned his first senior Brazil call-up despite playing just 10 minutes of Premier League football since completing his £34m move from Palmeiras in August.

The 22-year-old was one of five uncapped players included in Carlo Ancelotti's 26-man squad on Thursday for November's international friendlies against Japan and Singapore.

His selection represents a remarkable development for an attacking midfielder who only arrived in English football two months ago and has yet to establish himself in Enzo Maresca's first-team plans.

Allan has made just one Premier League appearance, coming off the bench for the closing stages of City's 3-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield on October 11.

However, the Brazilian has enjoyed greater opportunities in cup competitions, scoring on his debut against Norwich City before featuring in the Champions League and Wednesday's Carabao Cup encounter with Brighton & Hove Albion.

Ancelotti's decision suggests that Allan's limited domestic involvement has not prevented him from attracting international recognition as Brazil begin rebuilding following their disappointing 2026 World Cup campaign.

Allan earns Brazil breakthrough just two months after Man City transfer

City secured Allan's signature towards the end of August in a deal worth an initial £32m, potentially rising to approximately £34m with add-ons.

The left-footed attacker had established himself as an exciting prospect at Palmeiras, where his ability to carry the ball, operate between the lines and create opportunities attracted attention from European clubs.

Having progressed through the Brazilian club's academy, he made his senior debut in January 2025 and accumulated valuable first-team experience before moving to Manchester.

His introduction to English football was particularly encouraging.

Handed his City debut against Norwich in the Carabao Cup on September 17, Allan contributed a goal and an assist in an emphatic 5-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium.

He provided the cross for academy youngster Floyd Samba to open the scoring before getting on the scoresheet himself, cutting inside and finishing with his favoured left foot.

The Brazilian was substituted after 71 minutes, having demonstrated the attacking qualities that persuaded City to invest heavily in his potential.

However, those contributions did not immediately translate into regular Premier League opportunities.

Allan remained an unused substitute against Manchester United and Sunderland before making his league debut in the victory at Liverpool, where he was introduced for the final 10 minutes.

He subsequently watched City's 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town from the bench and was not included in the squad for their defeat to Aston Villa.

His opportunities have been more substantial elsewhere.

The youngster completed 90 minutes during City's 5-1 Champions League victory against AEK Athens on October 20.

He also started Wednesday's Carabao Cup fourth-round meeting with Brighton, playing 61 minutes before being replaced by Jeremy Doku as City progressed on penalties following a 2-2 draw.

Those appearances provide a more complete picture of his involvement than his limited Premier League minutes alone, although he remains some way from securing a regular starting position in Maresca's strongest side.

Ancelotti hands Man City prospect chance as Brazil rebuild after World Cup

Allan's inclusion reflects Ancelotti's determination to assess a new generation of players following Brazil's elimination by Norway in the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup.

The five newcomers in his latest squad are Allan, Cruzeiro defender Jonathan Jesus, Corinthians midfielder Andre Luiz and Shakhtar Donetsk duo Marlon Gomes and Alisson Santana.

Ancelotti has also selected several established Premier League players, including Arsenal pair Gabriel Magalhaes and Bruno Guimaraes, Aston Villa midfielder Joao Gomes and Chelsea winger Estevao Willian.

City defender Vitor Reis has also been called up, giving Maresca two representatives in the Brazilian squad.

Allan joins an attacking group featuring Real Madrid's Vinicius Junior and Endrick, Barcelona's Raphinha, Estevao and Bournemouth forward Rayan.

The November fixtures represent another opportunity for Ancelotti to assess younger players as he builds towards the 2028 Copa America and 2030 World Cup.

Brazil have already begun that process since their World Cup disappointment, drawing 1-1 with Australia before recording victories over the Socceroos and India during the previous international window.

The Italian manager has emphasised the importance of renewal while retaining experienced figures to provide continuity within the squad.

Indeed, 15 of the 26 players selected for November are under the age of 23, highlighting the emphasis on developing options for the next international cycle.

Brazil face Japan at Singapore's National Stadium on November 14 before meeting the hosts at the same venue three days later.

For Allan, the trip presents an opportunity to make his senior international debut and gain further experience at the highest level.

His selection does not guarantee an immediate increase in playing time at Manchester City, but it represents an important personal milestone after a rapid transition from Brazilian football to the Premier League.

The youngster could now make his first appearance for his country before recording a full half of Premier League football for City.
