Sean McVay wants more balance in Rams' pass-heavy offense

Despite having a 1,000-yard rusher in Kyren Williams and an emerging RB2 in Blake Corum, the Los Angeles Rams have continued to use a pass-happy offensive attack in 2026, which has led to Matthew Stafford once again leading the NFL in passing yards, completions and pass attempts.

In their loss to the Arizona Cardinals, the Rams threw 33 passes and attempted 20 rushes. On Monday, head coach and offensive playcaller Sean McVay was asked if he was satisfied with the run-pass balance that was displayed. In his response, McVay said he wants to be more balanced moving forward, and the high passing rate was due to the clock situation.

“Yesterday, we [didn't have] that many plays," said McVay. "We were still in a two-minute [drill] at the end of the game playing from behind. I would like to be more balanced, no question about it. Ultimately, what I care about and what we care about is what’s the best way is to move the ball and score points. Because of some of the situations that we've been in, those two-minute situations have gotten us a little bit out of balance. No matter how I cut it, it's an excuse. I'd like to be able to have a little bit more balance and that's reflected by being efficient on early downs and sustaining drives.”

McVay had one of his worst games ever as a play caller, seemingly being a half-step behind the Cardinals for the majority of the game. Williams and Corum had 19 of the Rams' 20 carries, racking up 92 total yards. The other carry was the failed fullback dive by Davis Allen on fourth down, which came when the Rams were in scoring position.

With Davante Adams out for some time, one has to believe McVay will run the ball more, if his words are to be believed.
