Hull City player ratings at Fulham as awful Tigers well-beaten

City produced a turgid display in the capital to lose at the bottom side

A desperately poor performance from Hull City, their worst since promotion, saw them deservedly beaten 1-0 at bottom-side Fulham, who secured their first win of the Premier League season.

City were nothing short of abject in the first half, with the only saving grace being that they were just one goal down after Alex Iwobi's 33rd-minute strike. In Sergej Jakirovic's tenure, there won't have been many displays as bad as that.

Little changed in the second half, despite Jakirovic's changes, and though they stayed in the game, the Tigers never offered anything to suggest they could claw a way back into it. Fulham's profligacy in front of goal was the reason it remained close in terms of the scoreline.

Ryan Sessegnon was dismissed in added time for a crude foul on the back of Robinho Vaz, but that came after three minutes had been played, and it made little difference. There will be concern for Vaz ahead of next weekend.

Here's how Tigers reporter Barry Cooper rated the players at Craven Cottage....

Konstantinos Tzolakis: Sloppy start, with a poor kick-out which almost gave Fulham a way in and then threw it straight out of play. Should have kept out Iwobi's strike. Made a couple of big saves in the second after yet more errors. 6/10

Brooke Norton-Cuffy: A first start in the Premier League for the deadline day arrival and was picked off throughout the first half, culminating in his poor clearance going straight to Iwobi to score. A tough afternoon at left-back. 4/10

Semi Ajayi: Far too exposed in the first half, but was one of the few who could come out of it with any credit. Got away with one early in the second half when Tzolakis made a crucial save following the Nigerian's poor pass out. 6/10

John Egan, Like Ajayi and Herrington, was battered in the first half and stuck at it and the same again in the second half, with little changing in front of him. 6/10

Lewie Coyle: Captained the side on his 400th career appearance, spent most of the first half pinned back in a nightmare opening 45 minutes. 6/10

Regan Slater: Booked in the first period moments after being caught by Josh King, couldn't get a foothold in the contest, though his volley was City's only effort. Better in the second half, but nowhere near where he would have wanted to be. 5/10

Lucas Herrington: Back in the side after his first start at St James' Park and made a couple of really important blocks inside the opening 10 minutes. Was booked for a foul outside the box. A rare shining light in an awful first period but withdrawn at the break. 6/10

Matt Crooks: Crucial block on Iwobi's early shot which looped over, and then won a challenge which the fans enjoyed. Struggled to get into it, though. The game largely passed him by, as did Sander Berge. Needed to be so much more involved. 4/10

Mo Belloumi: Didn't really have a sniff, City were just lumping it to him and hoping for some individual magic. That didn't come, and he was never in it. Smashed a late free-kick over, which neatly summed up a dour day all round. 4/10

Sorba Thomas: Not in the game at all, and didn't really do a lot to help Norton-Cuffy, who was increasingly isolated. Offered very little in a game his side were woeful. 4/10

Oli McBurnie: Barely touched the ball, let alone have a chance. Like Belloumi, just kept seeing the ball thumped up to him. Dragged far too deep all afternoon. Had absolutely zero service, and you have to feel for him. 5/10

Tim Iroegbunam (for Herrington 46): On at the start of the second period and couldn't really get into it. Got better as it wore on, and he found his rhythm. Important challenge on the edge of his own box in the closing stages. 6/10

Joe Gelhardt (for Thomas 68): Went down inside the box but didn't get the penalty he wanted. 5/10

Robinho Vaz (for Crooks 68): Had to be helped off the pitch in stoppage time after a horrible challenge on him from Sessegnon. 5/10

Ryan Giles (for Norton-Cuffy 68): Crucial clearance off the line just after coming on, popping up in midfield as the game wore on. Will have felt annoyed to have been left out. 6/10

Hidemasa Morita (for Slater 74): Showed real quality on the ball when he came on, something that had not been there all afternoon. Must surely start next weekend? 6/10
