Indian batter follows Ranji ton with triple century on first-class return after two years

Priyanshu Moliya struck an unbeaten 321 to create history for Baroda in their Ranji Trophy 2026-27 fixture against Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, October 28.

Priyanshu Moliya enters history books with triple century

Coming in to bat at number three at 36-1, 21-year-old Moliya batted 492 balls for his 321 not out, becoming the player with the highest first-class score for Baroda. Moliya struck 36 fours and a six in his historic knock to power the team to 616 in the first innings.

It wasn't an easy ride as wickets kept falling around and he had to dig deep. After losing two quick wickets, Moliya steadied the innings with a 91-run stand with Deepak Hooda. But Baroda lost three more in no time and were reduced to 197-6.

Mahesh Pithiya provided the much needed support with a century of his own, helping stitch a 238-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Moliya continued after Pithiya’s dismissal, doing the bulk of the scoring and adding 145 with Rasikh Salam Dar (47) for the ninth wicket.

He brought up his triple ton off 467 deliveries, becoming only the second Baroda player to register a triple century after Gul Mohammad (319 in 1947). This isn't the first time he has created history, however, as he hold the record for the fifth-highest score in recorded history for his unbeaten 556 in an Under-14 match.

Moliya, who represented India in the 2024 U19 World Cup, had not played a first-class game since February 2024 until this season, and featured in just four List A matches last year. But he found a new lease of life in 2026, hammering back-to-back centuries in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He then made a sublime 132 last week to power Baroda to 416 from a tricky situation and set up a 10-wicket victory over Bihar.

Following the triple century, Moliya now has 1,008 runs from 11 first-class games at an average of 67.20. His List A numbers are also impressive, albeit a short sample size, with 379 runs from seven innings at an average of 63.16 and strike rate of 87.73.
