Chester looking forward to second home match of the week

The Blues are fifth in the table and Blues boss Phil Parkinson expects a stern test from a side that has begun to find its feet.

Speaking to Chester FC TV, Parkinson said: “Really tough game and again, another one of the teams, like the Morecambes, like the South Shields, everyone’s touting as they put their money where their mouth is and they’ve gone big on their recruitment.

“They’ve got players that I’ve come across year-on-year in the National League. They’ve got a lot of weapons. They’ve not had the best starts, but they’ve caught up now and they’ll be a difficult opponent for us.”

Chester will take confidence from Tuesday night’s impressive 2-1 comeback victory over Marine.

Just as pleasing for Parkinson was the atmosphere generated by the home support, with the Chester boss believing fans are beginning to fully embrace the changes made since his arrival.

“I think they are starting to get us a little bit now,” he added. “It’s difficult because I’ve changed the style of play.

“I’ve changed a lot of personnel. Fans have got to warm to the new players, they’ve got to warm to me, got to warm to everything that we’re doing and the only way we’ll do that is by giving them nights like this.”

Parkinson added that the backing from the terraces made a real difference and said: “I feel like they’re really with us now.”

Other fixtures: Bedford v Macclesfield; Buxton v Marine; Hebburn v Harborough; Hereford v King’s Lynn; Morecambe v Scarborough; Oxford City v South Shields; Radcliffe v Merthyr; Southport v Telford; Spalding v Darlington; Spennymoor v Chorley; Worksop v Brackley.

Regan Booty scored late on as leaders Boreham Wood came from behind to win 2-1 at Woking for an eighth straight National League victory.

That puts them 10 points clear of second-placed Harrogate Town heading into tomorrow’s home clash against Hartlepool.

Harrogate’s cause wasn’t helped as they were beaten 3-0 by nine-men Carlisle United on Wednesday night.

Josh Williams, Callum Whelan and Ryan Galvin scored for The Cumbrians, who played the final hour with nine men.

Other fixtures: Forest Green v Harrogate; Halifax v Yeovil; Aldershot v Gateshead; Altrincham v Carlisle; Barrow v Eastleigh; Solihull v Kidderminster; Tamworth v Woking; Wealdstone v Southend; Worthing v Sutton; Boston v Scunthorpe. Tonight: Fylde v Hornchurch.
