After a week-long Week 7 bye, the Chargers will look to get their first win of the season against the Rams.
The Bolts sit at 0-6 and are likely one loss away from tanking the rest of the season. The Chargers have shown few signs of a turnaround, but if they want to salvage the season, it must start on Sunday.
Here are four bold predictions in Week 8.
Johnston's play this season has been below average. He has yet to reach 60 yards in the five games he's played and has a total of 165 yards with eight catches in the season. The 25-year-old has had no more than three receptions in a single game, but after a week off, I think we'll see a rejuvenated Chargers team, and Johnston will follow suit. Johnston won't just catch a touchdown; it will be at least 30 yards.
The Chargers' defense has been the only bright spot among the three total units, and I think they will pick up right where they left off. For the Bolts to get their first win, a play or two on defense could be the difference. While the Bolts will be without Derwin James, others in the secondary will need to step up. With the Rams having experienced trouble with ball sectuiry and overall turnover margin. The Chargers must take advantage of that.
I know, I know, the offense has been abysmal, and a bye week may not do anything. But I'm going out on a limb saying that the Chargers will turn it around on Sunday. Herbert's season-high is 226 passing yards, and the Rams have not allowed an opposing quarterback to reach 300+ yards. That changes Sunday.
This one may be getting old, but I think the bye week will benefit the Chargers, for at least this contest. If the Bolts ever put together a complete performance, it would make sense for it to come right after the bye. If the Chargers' offense can hold up its end of the bargain, the Bolts will have a great chance to win.
