Liverpool transfer news: Reds monitor Newcastle striker situation

The report, relayed by Transfer Feed, adds that Newcastle want a permanent transfer worth around €65 million (£56 million). That valuation has discouraged potential buyers. Instead, several interested clubs are believed to favour a loan with an option to buy, giving them greater financial flexibility before making a long-term commitment.

Liverpool are one of several sides keeping a close eye on the situation. Newcastle’s willingness to listen to offers comes after a difficult financial period and wider changes behind the scenes, with player sales forming part of their summer plans.

Woltemade joined Newcastle from VfB Stuttgart before the 2025/26 season in a club-record deal. His debut Premier League campaign produced eight goals and three assists in 33 appearances, including 24 starts. Across all competitions, the 24-year-old scored 11 goals and supplied five assists in 51 matches. Those numbers hardly scream elite striker, yet they still hint at a player with obvious tools waiting to be refined.

Liverpool transfer news: A loan is the smarter solution

Liverpool shouldn’t spend €65 million on Woltemade this summer. That’s simply too much money for a forward who has yet to prove he can deliver consistently in England.

A loan changes the conversation completely. It gives Andoni Iraola another attacking option without tying up a sizeable part of Liverpool’s budget. Being 1.98 metres tall, Woltemade offers something unusual. He can dominate in the air, receive with his back to goal and still carry the ball comfortably through central areas.

Liverpool transfer news: He offers variety without the financial gamble

Liverpool’s attack already contains pace and movement. What it lacks is a genuine physical reference point who can occupy defenders and create space for runners such as Mohamed Salah and Luis Díaz. Woltemade could provide that variation while developing away from the pressure that followed his record-breaking move to Newcastle.

There is little sense in matching Newcastle’s asking price today. A loan with an option to buy protects Liverpool if his form stalls, while giving the coaching staff a full season to judge whether his technical quality and tactical intelligence suit Iraola’s system. That’s a far stronger piece of business than paying €65 million on potential alone.
