Liverpool are keen to bolster their forward options before the start of the new season, and they have now been given the green light to complete a surprise deal, according to Caught Offside.

The Reds have seen Mohamed Salah depart on a free transfer, while Hugo Ekitike is a long-term absentee due to the achilles injury he suffered at the back end of the 2025/26 campaign. There are also question marks over the future of Cody Gakpo and Federico Chiesa, which has seen the club look at options in the attack.

Bradley Barcola is understood to be the top target, while GMS understands there is strong interest in fellow PSG star Ibrahim Mbaye too, but cover for Alexander Isak is also being eyed, which has led to interest in a Premier League star.

Liverpool Eyeing Nick Woltemade

According to a report, Liverpool hold an interest in Newcastle United star Nick Woltemade for this summer.

The Germany international, who has been described as 'unstoppable', joined the Magpies last summer in a club-record deal worth around £69m, after Liverpool had swooped to sign Ekitike ahead of them, while also pursuing Alexander Isak in a British-record deal worth £125m.

But Woltemade struggled to make an impact in his maiden campaign, registering just 11 goals in 51 appearances across all competitions. Now, it has emerged that Newcastle have informed the player that he can leave the club on loan to play elsewhere for the upcoming season.

Liverpool are understood to be one of the clubs who are keeping a close eye on the situation, and while there have been no club-to-club talks yet about a deal, they remain interested.

His ability to play as a number nine and number ten is something appealing to Andoni Iraola and Liverpool. He is not their top target to improve the attack, but he is someone under consideration after Newcastle opened the door to an exit.

Woltemade Would Be Odd Addition

Woltemade clearly has plenty of quality, which is what convinced Newcastle to pay such a big sum to sign him ahead of Bayern Munich. But Eddie Howe struggled to get the best out of him, even using him in midfield at times.

But Liverpool are looking to build a squad that is full of pace and quality in attack, and Woltemade wouldn't necessarily fit into that category. He's not the quickest or strongest, but technically he is exceptional, and he would provide a different profile to what they currently have.

A deal could make sense, but on paper it would be an odd deal considering his struggles in the Premier League. Liverpool need players ready to make an immediate impact, and there is no guarantee that he would be able to do that.
