Gloucestershire football club issues statement after fan injured

The incident occurred on Saturday, following a match between Redditch United and Gloucester City.

It is believed that around 50 youths, who were denied entry to the stadium, reportedly threw rocks at the travelling Gloucester City supporters as they left the ground, resulting in one fan being injured.

It was also reported that this was part of a social media trend.

A spokesperson for Gloucester City AFC said: "Serious concerns have been raised regarding the safety of our supporters, after an incident involving a small minority of Redditch United supporters that resulted in one of our fans sustaining an injury.

"The safety and wellbeing of our supporters is paramount, and we want to reassure everyone that incidents of this nature will be taken extremely seriously.

"Investigations will take place to establish the full circumstances surrounding what happened and to ensure the appropriate action is taken."

The club thanked the majority of fans for their behaviour and praised their own supporters for representing Gloucester City positively.

David Faulkner, chair of Redditch United, said: "We have recently put new regulations in place that are making this easier to deal with.

"At the moment this is moving the issue to other places, on Saturday this was outside the ground which we have no control over.

"We’ll keep working to stamp this out.

"Clubs and real supporters need to work together."

Following the incident, Faulkner said that fans under 18 must now be accompanied by an adult.

Redditch progressed on penalties after the FA Trophy clash ended 2-2.
