For the first time in nearly two years, Tank Dell made his way back into the end zone on Sunday afternoon.
Dell, who missed all of last season recovering from a gruesome knee injury he suffered in 2024, scored a touchdown just before halftime of their matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. It was just Dell's second game back on the field since the injury.
Dell, in the second quarter at SoFi Stadium, easily broke up the right side of the field and hauled in a deep pass from C.J. Stroud. He completed the 63-yard run into the end zone, which put Houston up 17-9 at the time.
The comeback touchdown was about as perfect as it could have possibly been.
Dell went down in a matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs in December 2024 while scoring a 30-yard touchdown. As Dell made the catch, teammate Jared Wayne dove in to try and make the catch too and accidentally crashed into his left knee. Dell ended up being taken off the field on a stretcher.
In the end, Dell tore multiple ligaments, sustained meniscus damage and dislocated his left knee. He missed all of the 2025 campaign, and only made it back onto the field for the first time last week in the Texans' 27-20 overtime loss to the New York Giants.
The injury was just the latest significant one that Dell has faced in his career, too. He fractured his fibula during his rookie season, and he was then shot in the leg as a bystander at a mass shooting in Florida in 2024.
The catch on Sunday was Dell's second of the game, and just his third this season. Houston entered the contest with a 2-5 record, while the Chargers are still the lone winless team in the league.
While Houston's season hasn't gotten off to the best start, Dell has made his way into the end zone once again. His comeback is officially complete.
