Wrexham fined £75,000 over ineligible player rule breaches

The Welsh club have been fined £75,000 for fielding ineligible players on two occasions this season.

And one case concerns the ex-Blues loanee Callum O'Hare.

The EFL have found that Wrexham included O'Hare in a matchday squad without the proper paperwork being completed.

The midfielder was an unused substitute in Wrexham's 3-0 win at Millwall on September 2.

That came despite his move from Sheffield United having not fully gone through after his move the day before.

"O’Hare had not been registered in time to be eligible for the fixture. He did not feature in the match," said Wrexham in a statement.

A similar issue arose with Issa Kabore after his earlier move from Manchester City, with 'right to work' Home Office documentation having not been uploaded in time before he was named in a squad.

Some £25,000 of Wrexham's £75,000 fine has been suspended.

In a statement, Wrexham added: "We can confirm that Wrexham AFC has reached an Agreed Decision with the EFL concerning two breaches relating to player eligibility.

"The club is taking the appropriate steps to prevent such issues occurring in the future."

O'Hare was on United's books in the 2018/19 season, making 16 appearances.
