Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is making his comeback against the Atlanta Falcons after missing the last three games with a hamstring injury.
The Bears’ offense was on fire to start the game with a 10-play, 67-yard touchdown drive where Williams did not have an incompletion. He capped off the drive with a touchdown pass to tight end Colston Loveland, which was Loveland’s first touchdown of the season.
That touchdown was Williams' 50th passing touchdown. He only has 14 interceptions, making him just the third quarterback in NFL history to throw for 50 touchdowns with 15 interceptions or less. He joins elite company alongside Baltimore's Lamar Jackson and Kansas City's Patrick Mahomes.
Jackson and Mahomes have each won the MVP twice in their NFL careers so far. Chicago has never had a quarterback win the MVP in the modern era. So, if Williams were to join those quarterbacks in that regard, it would be historic for the Bears’ franchise in addition to the history he has already made.
With Williams’ touchdown in this game, he also became the ninth quarterback in franchise history to reach at least 50 passing touchdowns. Another touchdown in this game would allow him to pass Jim Harbaugh in passing touchdowns. It took Harbaugh 89 games to reach 50 touchdowns; Williams is playing in just his 37th game.
